Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction November 2010
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/16/2010
A front row witness to Olympic hockey history, our consignor is offering a superb collection of memorabilia from the 2010 games in Vancouver. The highlight is an official Olympic game puck from Canada's 3-2 shootout win over Switzerland during the men's tournament on February 18. The prized souvenir fell into TV cameraman Miles Perry's lap when it went out of play while he was shooting game action at ice level. Hired to work the entire men's hockey tournament in Vancouver, Perry was able to get his game puck signed by both Sidney Crosby and Roberto Luongo in the immediate wake of Canada's sensational overtime win against the United States in the final which clinched the host nation's record 14th gold medal. Sid the Kid, Canada's overtime hero, applied his silver Sharpie signature across the Vancouver 2010 logo on the face and winning goalie Luongo signed across the Olympic rings logo on the reverse, as detailed in Perry's letter of provenance which accompanies this lot. Also included here is Perry's green-and-red Vancouver 2010 official cameraman's bib, which has "CTV-RDS DD-1" written on it in black marker, and two newspaper pages with photos of Crosby celebrating his gold medal-winning overtime goal, with Perry behind the glass at the boards shooting an image of Niedermayer and Doughty converging on Crosby. Rounding out this magnificent Vancouver 2010 lot are broadcast crew tickets for two men's hockey games, including one from Canada's 3-2 semi-final win over Slovakia on February 26, Perry's official Olympic participation medal and certificate, his Vancouver 2010 identity and accreditation card with its original sleeve and lanyard, his Olympic Broadcast Services broadcaster's handbook, and a large Vancouver 2010 logo pin.
