Perfect pairing of game-worn Team Canada gloves from "The Goal" and a team-autographed game-used stick, both used by hero Paul Henderson throughout the games of the immensely-important 1972 Canada/Russia Summit Series. Henderson's historic goal in Game 8 in Moscow would bring an entire nation to its feet. The glorious gloves were originally sold in our May, 1999 auction. They are the gloves Paul Henderson was wearing when he scored the historic series-winning goal in Moscow in Game 8. The red and white leather mitts came from a great source, Team Canada trainer Joe Sgro. The pair retains the original leather palms, but as Sgro explains, his kids, having no idea of the future value, cut the cuffs short to use for street hockey. The now-shortened and hemmed pair of CCM Team Canada gloves will never lose their importance and place in hockey's history. The stick, Paul's vintage CCM Custom Pro, used during the 1972 Series is taped at the handle and blade and stamped "Henderson" high up on the shaft. A parade of Canada's most talented players, members of the 1972 Series Team Canada squad, have signed in uniform and legible ballpoint ink along one side of the shaft. Those who have made their mark include Paul Henderson, Phil and Tony Esposito, Joe Sgro, Red Fisher, Bobby Orr, Jean Ratelle, Ken Dryden, Bobby Orr, Bobby Clarke, Bill White, Alan Eagleson, Harry Sinden and many more for a total of 35 from the Canadian contingent. The wondrous wooden display that houses the two significant find places the stick firmly in the grasp of both gloves and remembers the goal with three 11" x 14" black and white photos in behind. Also preserved behind glass is a souvenir puck, signed by Henderson and Esposito, a vintage postcard signed by Henderson and Yvan Cournoyer along with a replica ticket from Game 8 and three descriptive plaques detailing Henderson's "Shot Heard Around the Hockey World". The massive and attractive shadow-box display measures a whopping 31" x 62". Also included but not pictured is a rare 1972 Series pennant and a color 16" x 20" photograph of Team Canada. Comes complete with a PSA/DNA letter of authenticity for autographs and an additional letter detailing the authenticity of game-used items.
