Oh, the colors! Oh, the holders! Oh, the opportunity to acquire one of the hobby's coveted pre-war card sets! And, oh, the fun it is to give you the PSA-graded lowdown on this ensemble issued by Hamilton Chewing Gum, Ltd. of Hamilton, Ontario during the 1933-34 hockey season with this set ranked #4 on the PSA Registry. We're pleased to report that the "biggies" are among the nicest of the group, led by the era's star attraction, one Howie Morenz, who comes in at EX 5. The PSA Population Report reveals that only six other Morenz cards (out of 44 total) have ever been graded higher by PSA, with nine others at EX 5. Also receiving EX 5 status is Morenz's brother-in-arms, Aurele Joliat, with similar "pop" numbers. Nine other Joliats are at EX 5, with just six higher. Card #17 features another legend, King Clancy, and is deemed VG-EX+ 4.5, as is the rookie card of fellow Maple Leaf Charlie Conacher. Hall-of-Famer rookie cards include #2-Joe Primeau (VG+ 3), 11-Ace Bailey (VG-EX 4), 21-Red Horner (VG-EX+ 4.5), 29-Busher Jackson (Good 2), 42-Ebbie Goodfellow (VG-EX 4) and 44-Larry Aurie (VG-EX+ 4.5), with HOFers 18-Mantha (VG-EX 4) and 33-Day (Good 2) also present. Completing the set, in order of condition, are (2) at EX 5; # 3-Burke and 14-Larochelle, (2) at VG-EX+ 4.5; #23-Lepine and 30-Chabot, (3) at VG-EX 4; #1-Wasnie, 7-Thoms and 36-Levinsky, one at VG 3; #9-Blair and one at Good 2; #39-Cotton. Truly a special group, destined for an appreciative new home with a serious hobbyist - is that you?!
