Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction November 2010
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/16/2010
A beautiful bold signature of Hall-of-Famer "Red" Dutton graces the front of this Canadian Chewing Gum card from 1933-34. After a successful playing career with Calgary (WCHL), the Montreal Maroons and N.Y. Americans, Mr. Dutton was asked to take over as NHL president upon the death of Frank Calder in 1943 and admirably accomplished the task until Clarence Campbell arrived in 1946. Dutton's "M" initial (for Mervin) leads off the pencil autograph, while the bottom of the crease-free card was cut off back in the day, when a letter there could be used to spell hockey teams' names and win a home hockey game - neat!
