Hall of Fame defenseman Tom Johnson appeared in a record 10 straight Stanley Cup finals with the Montreal Canadiens from 1951-60. Despite playing in the shadow of Doug Harvey throughout most of his career, Johnson claimed the Norris Trophy as the NHL's top defenseman in 1959. He indicated that he signed this original portrait of himself by Carleton "Mac" McDiarmid at Montreal's Queen Elizabeth Hotel on June 6, 1977. Johnson personalized his signature, "To Mac, best wishes, Tom Johnson, C.H.C. 1950-1963," in the upper left corner of this great painting on 15 1/2" x 13" professional illustration board. Mounted in grey matte, it is tastefully presented in a 20" x 16" silver colored metal frame. Inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1970, Johnson coached the Boston Bruins to the Stanley Cup in 1972. He died on November 22, 2007, months after he was honored by the league along with Jean Beliveau, Henri Richard, Dickie Moore, Jean-Guy Talbot and Don Marshall as the surviving members of the group of 12 Canadiens players who were part of all five of the team's record five straight Stanley Cups from 1956-60.
