Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction November 2010

Hall-of-Famer Bill Cowley began his NHL career with the ill-fated St. Louis Eagles in 1934-35, the team's only season after the franchise moved from Ottawa. Selected by Boston in the dispersal draft after the Eagles folded, Cowley won the Stanley Cup with the Bruins in 1939 and 1941. He has indicated that he signed this original portrait of himself by Carleton "Mac" McDiarmid in Ottawa in 1977 and has personalized his signature, "To Mac; Good luck. Bill Cowley Boston Bruins, 1934-47." Presented in a grey matte, this original painting was done on a 15 1/2" x 13" professional illustration board and is mounted in a 20" x 16" silver-colored metal frame. Elected to the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1968, Cowley - who died in 1993 - was the league's all-time leading scorer when he retired with 548 points in 549 regular season games.
