Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction November 2010
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/16/2010
Figure skating legend and Hollywood star Sonja Henie and Hockey Hall of Famer Jim Hendy each signed this vintage 8" x 10" shot along with Harold J. Dibbler. All three vintage black fountain pen signatures are clearly legible including Henie, the Norwegian skating darling who was a three-time Olympic champion (1928, 1932 & 1936) and 10-time world champion. Henie parlayed her skating success and good looks into an acting career and became one of the highest paid Hollywood stars of her day. Henie died in 1969 and was subsequently inducted into both the World Figure Skating Hall of Fame (1976) and International Women's Sports Hall of Fame (1982). Hendy published the popular hockey guides of the 1930s and '40s and was hockey's first great statistician. He died in 1961 and also became a HOFer posthumously, inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame as a builder in 1968. Little to report about Dibbler other than he clearly was in good company when this photo was taken. "Roland Harvey Photo" is stamped on the reverse of this aged print which remains in excellent display condition with minor creases to note as well as nicks around the edges.
