Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction November 2010
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/16/2010
Hall of Famer Leo Dandurand passed away in 1964, one year after his induction into the builder's section. Dandurand is best remembered with business partners Louis Letourneau and fellow HOFer Joseph Cattarinich as the "Three Musketeers" who bought the Montreal Canadiens in 1921 and helped establish the team's reputation as the "Flying Frenchmen" while claiming the Stanley Cup three times during their tenure, including their last championship shortly before this letter was written. Offered here is a vintage letter on Dandurand's Canadiens letterhead featuring the deceased HOFer's original pencil signature. Leo's large and flowing full-name signature is a beauty to behold on this French-language letter dated June 5, 1931 which lists Dandurand and Cattarinich at the top along with team president Athanase David and coach Cecil Hart. Dandurand's signature in any form - let alone a signed document - rarely surfaces.
