Rare signed Lord Byng of Vimy photo portrait features the former Governor General of Canada's autograph dated shortly before his death in June of 1935 at the age of 72. "Byng of Vimy, 1934" reads the signature in the bottom right corner of the 7 3/4" x 5 3/4" photo studio portrait which is mounted on a 9 1/4" x 6 1/4" beige matte atop another larger beige matte measuring approximately 13 1/2" x 9 5/8" overall. Lord Byng led the Canadian Corps in the Battle of Vimy Ridge in 1917, widely considered a turning point in the First World War. He and his wife were enthusiastic hockey fans who regularly attended Ottawa Senators home games in the 1920s. Lady Byng donated to the NHL the first version of the trophy that still bears her name. Also included here is an eight-page Order of Service booklet from Lord Byng's funeral.
