Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction November 2010
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/16/2010
Best known for his brilliantly colored, rousing images of energetic sporting events and athletes, LeRoy Neiman is probably the most popular living artist in the United States. His work, "The Great Gretzky" is the definitive artistic interpretation of hockey's all-time leading scorer. This image captures the essence, movement and grace of Gretzky in vivid tones of blue, red and a myriad of graphic color. These seldom-seen promo poster prints, printed on thick paper poster stock, were produced in 1981 to market the popular edition of 359 total serigraphs. Prints have been preserved in excellent condition with light stains on their upper left corner areas and middle right edge areas, one print has a 6-inch crease along the top right edge and the other a 5-inch crease along the right edge, these defects can easily be matted-out. The poster measures about 23"x34" and will make for great display pieces.
