Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction November 2010

One of the NHL's better offensive defensemen who had three 20-goal seasons and who totaled over 200 during his 17-year career, Gary Suter teamed with Al MacInnis on the Calgary power play and helped the Flames to the Stanley Cup finals in both '86 and '89. Gary's road red mesh Flames jersey no longer has any tagging in the collar but displays an embroidered CCM logo patch on the rear outer hem. A peek inside the tail reveals a small, neat autograph and the shirt has a long, loop-style fightstrap. Everything is sewn-on including "Suter" across the nameplate and the left shoulder displays the 1988 Olympic patch (common on shirts sold from the Flames' team store). Great game use on this one with loads of black stick marks throughout and at least six stitched team repairs on the left sleeve. A splendid jersey worn by a player who is destined for the U.S. Hockey Hall of Fame. [red] Addendum; The CCM red/red/blue logo on hem was used on the 1984-85 Calgary jerseys and after close inspection a tiny thread is visible along the line where a former nameplate would have been which makes this jersey a 1984-85 Kari Eloranta game-worn jersey recycled for Gary Suter for the pre-season / early part of the 1985-86 season so this jersey is the first Gary would have worn with the Flames in his rookie season.
