Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction November 2010
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/16/2010
"An Amphitheatre Worthy of Chicago's Greatness" reads the heading of the introduction to this vintage Chicago Stadium prospectus. The Madhouse on Madison certainly lived up to that billing over the course of its lifespan. This intriguing publication titled "The Chicago Stadium - Its Benefit To And Influence On Industry" very seldom surfaces and makes for fascinating reading. James Norris and Frederic McLaughlin are among the Chicago Stadium Corporation board of directors listed on Page 3 opposite an architect's rendition of the venerable arena, the same image that is gloriously displayed across the centerfold of this 32-page prospectus. Housed in its original 18" x 12" embossed cover, this historic document presents the stadium corporation's justification of the building and its potential benefits to the city of Chicago, and lists details of the construction of arena, including the skating rink's ice plant and the gigantic Barton organ, as well as prospective earnings. The financing plan is laid out with the final two pages appealing to prospective investors to participate in the project. This rare Chicago Stadium prospectus remains in excellent condition overall considering its 80-plus years of existence with light handling to report. A remarkable piece of hockey history which figures to appeal to a broad range of collectors.
