Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction November 2010
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/16/2010
Collection of five Jacques Plante documents from the deceased Hall of Famer's player file with the NHL's head office includes an original February 1965 "Loan Agreement" document signed twice by Emile Francis. A Hall of Famer in the builder's category, Francis signed this official league document loaning the goaltending great from New York to AHL affiliate Baltimore in both his capacity as Rangers general manager and also on behalf of Clippers GM Terry Reardon. NHL president Clarence Campbell's red initials appear five times on these New York Rangers documents from Jake the Snake's file. Included here are all vintage copies of Francis' 1965 letter to Canadian income tax authorities regarding Plante, an October 1964 NHL loan agreement regarding the goaltending great, a pair of telegrams from Francis to the league's central registry, and Rangers GM Murray Patrick's October 1964 list of player loans sent to the league's central registry. Fascinating pieces which preceded and, in many ways, led to the first of Plante's three career retirements.
