Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction November 2010

Members of the 1972 Stanley Cup finalist New York Rangers signed Gilles Villemure's game-used goalie stick, which comes with Villemure's game-used lefthanded blocker glove. Villemure and HOFers Gilbert, Park and Giacomin are among the 15 vintage signatures along the front of the shaft in faded but mostly legible black marker. Gary Doak's signature dates this team-signed gamer to the 1971-72 season, when the Rangers beat Montreal and Chicago in the playoffs before falling to Boston in a six-game final. Villemure posted a 1-2 mark with a 2.33 goals-against-average in the series while splitting goaltending duties with Giacomin. The dedication "Best Wishes" appears along with newer signatures from Villemure, Gilbert and Park on the paddle of this Northland gamer with "Villemure" stamped on the front of the shaft below the southpaw goalie's well-worn white tape knob. The blade is broken at the heel, which sports a vintage retaping job in Villemure's style. The left-handed goalie's Cooper GM12 blocker from the early 1970s exhibits nice game use and a couple of black thread team stitching repairs on each of the front bottom corners. Villemure's signature across the bottom of the glove is very faint while the outline can be discerned of a faded dedicated autograph placed sideways towards the top of the glove.
