Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction November 2010
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/16/2010
The New York Rangers' blue-white-and-red color scheme is plain to see on this pair of game-used hockey gloves which belonged to Hall of Fame right wing Rod Gilbert. The Rangers' all-time leader with 406 goals and 1,021 points, Rod was a two-time NHL All-Star, including the First Team right wing in 1971-72. A member of Team Canada 1972, he represented the Blueshirts in eight NHL All-Star games. These Cooper gloves used by Gilbert in the mid- to late-1970s exhibit nice wear on the palms and game use in the form of various marks and red and blue paint transfer, particularly visible on the white protector below the cuff. The decals of Rod's retired #7 are no longer on the thumb protectors, but the outline of the now-retired number is plain to see along with adhesive remnants. "NYP" is stamped on the outside edge of the white protector on the left glove. A great display opportunity for Rangers/Hall of Fame game-used equipment aficionados.
