Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction November 2010
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/16/2010
Extraordinary photo display was only presented to members of the 1942 Stanley Cup champion Toronto Maple Leafs following their unprecedented comeback from a 3-0 deficit in the finals. A glossy 5 1/2" x 9" team photo of the 1941-42 Maple Leafs with the Cup at the feet of coach Hap Day and captain Syl Apps is applied to a thick creamy cardboard backing featuring screened-on velvety crests of all 7 NHL teams along with the Canadian and American flags, all in vibrant color! "Courtesy of Love and Bennett" appears in the lower left corner and the Leafs' players and management are identified by their facsimile signatures beneath the photo. Tremendous memento measures 12 1/2" x 19" overall and has been preserved in excellent condition, with a bit of roughness along the bottom edge the only significant flaw to note. This truly outstanding piece of Leafs history was obtained from the estate of Maple Leafs defenseman Ernie Dickens, who is pictured third from the right in the back row of this historic team photo.
