This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/16/2010
Longtime NHL president Clarence Campbell's initials appear five times on the seven documents offered here from Jacques Plante's league file. This lot consists of correspondence with regards to the Hall of Fame goaltender filed with the league's registry from the late 1940s to the early 1950s, including a pair of CP telegrams sent to the league by Canadiens GM Frank Selke during the 1952-53 season, both of which Campbell initialed in red pencil. Campbell similarly initialed a January 9, 1953 letter of Buffalo Hockey Club letterhead signed by personnel director G.V. Finnegan. Campbell's initials appear in lead pencil in the "rec'd" box on the Jan. 19, 1948 NHL time stamp on a Quebec Amateur Hockey Association heading with excerpts from minutes of two JAHA meetings regarding Plante's status. He has also initialed the adjacent "seen" box in red pencil. Also included are copies of 1947 league letters to Eddie Shore and Conn Smythe about Plante as well as a 1952 letter from the Montreal Royals to the league copied to Plante's file.
