Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction November 2010
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/16/2010
Historic hockey stick was used by Maurice "Rocket" Richard to score the 312th goal of his legendary NHL career. The custom of the time was to combine the total of regular season and playoff goals, which dates this magnificent and very rare Richard goal stick to midway during the 1950-51 season. Richard's very faded but legible vintage autograph appears on the front of the shaft along with the handwritten notation "(312 buts)" - 312 goals, in French. Rocket's immortal number "9" is stamped high on the shaft, very faded but clear to see below Maurice's original black tape knob. "Jimmy McNiece's 'Super Special' Hand Made in Montreal, Que" is stamped on both sides of the shaft and the "Kenny Grant & Johnny Bennet, Montreal, Que" supplier stamp is visible on the front of the shaft. The Rocket's original tape jobs remain on the knob and blade, which has some strands of black tape missing at the toe. The blade has age cracks and a small piece has chipped off. This is an incredible opportunity as Maurice Richard's early game-used sticks are rarely offered for sale. Comes with a letter of authenticity which states that this historic Richard goal stick was originally obtained from the collection of former Montreal Canadiens executive Charles Thiffault.
