Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction November 2010
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/16/2010
Magnificent and incredibly rare Rice Studios photo shows members of the 1937-38 Montreal Canadiens and Montreal Maroons posed together for one of the Howie Morenz memorial games. Howie Morenz Jr. is pictured in front of Aurele Joliat, who is seated in the middle of the front row. Members of the Canadiens and Maroons teamed up to play in a game held at the Montreal Forum on November 3, 1937 pitting the combined Montreal squad against an NHL All-Star team featuring the likes of Shore, Conacher and Thompson with proceeds benefitting the late Habs great's family. Maroons coach King Clancy is pictured in uniform on the left side of the back row of this shot which was likely taken prior to another Morenz benefit game, part of a tour through various cities. Siebert, Blinco, Ward, Cude, Beveridge, Gagnon, Northcott, Blake, Mantha and Dandurand are among the others posed in this historic shot. The vintage print measures approximately 6" x 9" is hand-signed by Rice. Mounted in a grey matte and displayed in a 10 1/2" x 13 1/8" frame, this Morenz benefit game photo of members of the Canadiens and Maroons has some surface marks to note which are visible when viewed at close range. The print's glossy finish, however, renders those imperfections hardly discernible under regular display conditions. A great opportunity to obtain a truly unique piece of hockey history.
