Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction June 2010
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/22/2010
This well-worn WHA San Diego Mariners goalie jersey from the 1976-77 season was recycled for use by the PHL team of the same name the following season. "Hebenton" spelled out in white vinyl letters heat-pressed onto an orange nameplate refer to goalie Clay Hebenton, who played two seasons in the WHA with the Phoenix Roadrunners before spending the 1977-78 season with the PHL Mariners. Shorter nameplate, likely for 1976-77 WHA Mariners goalie Ken Lockett, was removed. Size 50 Rawlings tag remains sewn in the neck of this tie-neck style Mariners gamer. Outstanding game use includes a 3-inch team repair on the back of the right shoulder, another on the blue-and-white twill #1 sewn on the back, wear on the right cuff and extensive interior pilling. Thread runs, particularly on the front of the jersey, are to note, as well as tearing and stretching of the eyeholes for the laces of the tie-neck collar. The left shoulder has the San Diego's round "Skating Skipper" patch which was removed.
