Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction June 2010

Hard to imagine coming across a finer example of an original WHA Michigan Stags game jersey. Relocated from Los Angeles where the franchise played the upstart league's first two seasons as the Sharks, the 1974-75 Stags folded in mid-January, 43 games into the season. The league reformed the team one week later as the Baltimore Blades, who completed the season before the franchise ceased operations for good. This red knit Stags jersey has its original size 48 Wilson tag sewn in the neck with #29 in black-red-and-white twill sewn on the back and both sleeves. Black and red twill team crest sewn on the front features yellow, white and black thread embroidery. With no evidence of game use or a nameplate removal, this original Stags jersey was likely part of the team's full set and remains in excellent condition overall, with thread that has come loose on the left side of the back, both on the seam along the shoulders and the doubling at the bottom of the tail. A great WHA jersey from one of the league's shortest-lived teams, and that's saying something!
