Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction June 2010
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/22/2010
This otherwise unassuming wooden Sherwood gamer packs a wallop of importance. This stick was wielded by Peter Svoboda and launched what would be the game winning goal during the Gold Medal final at the 1998 Olympic Winter Games. Svoboda's goal, coming at 8:08 of the third period, was the only score in the Czechs' 1-0 victory over Russia. The stick is a Sherwood PMP 9950, factory stamped up on the shaft with "Svoboda 23" and coded "984" on the back. Wrapped in white cloth tape at the knob and again at the blade, the significant memento will come complete with a detailed letter of provenance from the family of Czech coach and former star in his own right, Ivan Hlinka.
