Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction June 2010
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/22/2010
Striking memorabilia from the famous '72 Summit Series, this Russian nesting doll is one of the various size wooden dolls given to Team Canada players by their Soviet counterparts prior to Game 4 of the Series, played in Vancouver on September 8th, 1972. A full-page color photo of five Canadian players holding their dolls just after receiving them in the customary pre-game exchange of gifts is included in the classic "Twenty-seven days in September" book (page 67). Thin wooden two-piece affair has vibrant colors, stands 10 1/4" high, and has three cracks averaging one-inch each on the top part which is still very solid. Originally part of the Alan Eagleson collection, it's a wicked piece to add to a Summit Series display.
