Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction June 2010

The 1977 release of "Slap Shot" featured Paul Newman leading a losing industrial league hockey team, the Charlestown Chiefs", on to victory by adding heaping portions of violence into the mix. Now a cult classic, Slapshot is still one of the top rented movies in North America. Fan favorites, the Hanson Brothers, played by Steve Carlson, Jeff Carlson and Dave Hanson of World Hockey Association fame, were the hit of the film and the trio have made a career of re-enacting their famous roles at various charity events and games across North America. This scarce and fantastic old durene uniform was worn during the film-making by Steve Carlson playing the role of "Steve Hanson". No doubt one of a number produced for each player in a leading role by the wardrobe department for the production, the vintage Rawlings durene is tagged in the collar in size 56 and sports the "Charlestown All-American City" crest on the left shoulder. Two-tone number "17" rests on the back and again on each arm with the tackle twill CHIEFS logo across the chest. This one shows wear and use with a few light stains and puckering to the crest and numbers. What a find! Obtained from the film's producer, Robert J. Wunsch, who has had the shirt in his collection since 1977 and it will come with his signed letter of authenticity.
