Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction June 2010

A serious opportunity for serious Steve Yzerman and Red Wings collectors is this white knit Wings jersey, one of the first captain's jerseys donned by the young superstar! Steve was just 21 years of age throughout the 1986-87 season, with this style of Red Wings jersey only worn in '86-87. The young leader scored 31 goals and 90 points before helping the Wings reach the Stanley Cup semi-finals. A shriveled-up and barely attached CCM/Maska tag is in the neck, with a CCM patch joining the screened "Eastside" on the back hem. Unsnapping the fight strap reveals Stevie Y's number "19" in black marker, with "86-87" just below. Plenty of game use to report with blood stains in the shoulder yolk and on the front, where numerous black stick marks appear. A significant scrape in the "9" on the right sleeve also left a one-inch gash just below which was repaired. Half a dozen stick marks on the back, a burn at the right elbow, pilling on the outer elbow areas, considerable interior pilling (sleeves, fight strap regions), pilling around the red neckline and a little tear at the base of the neckline also are enhancing. Suffice to say, this beauty from early in a Hall of Fame career will greatly enhance your Yzerman shrine!
