Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction June 2010
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/22/2010
A masterful original work of art depicting Canadiens legend Hector "Toe" Blake is dated 1939 (Blake won the scoring title and Hart Trophy in '38-39!), and signed by artist Bill Cunningham highlights this group, obtained from a close friend of the Blake family. Matted and framed to approx. 20" by 21", it's joined by a neat Roger St-Jean photo collage (21" x 32") of Toe's '54-55 "Sages" team in the Montreal Depression (Oldtimers) League, a Sudbury Sports Hall of Fame plaque awarded in 1964 and a swell scrapbook. It intermittently spans Blake's career, with a small photo (just over 3" by 4") of the 1932 Memorial Cup champion Sudbury Wolf Cubs, a Blake Parade Sportif photo and several nifty newspaper caricatures as the highlights.
