Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction June 2010

Boston rookie Andre Savard and Chicago's Cliff Koroll both found the back of the net with each of their respective Bruins game pucks featured in this lot from the second and final season of the NHL's shortlived official goal puck program. The 20-year-old Savard put his puck past Detroit's Doug Grant in an 8-0 win over the Red Wings at Boston Garden on November 17, 1973, one of 16 goals he scored during his rookie season with the Bruins. Savard's dated goal puck has "#7" handwritten at the top of the round label which has his name, team and the date of the goal typed on it along with No. "BB-2-089", which indicates that it was the Bruins' 89th goal of the second year of the NHL goal puck program. Koroll's goal puck is from the 1974 playoffs when he scored on Boston's Gilles Gilbert in a 6-2 loss at Boston Garden on April 28 in the fifth game of the Black Hawks' six-game semi-final loss to the Bruins. Neither puck has its original NHL certificate.
