Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction June 2010
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/22/2010
Vintage puck enthusiasts will be tempted by this scarce Art Ross Tyer puck with "Andover, Mass." printed on the bottom of its round rubberized orange logo. The earliest NHL Art Ross game pucks had the Andover notation on their octagonal logos and "Andover" was replaced by "Buffalo NY USA" in the 1940s. This puck, however, has the patent number, unlike the earlier Andover octagonal crest puck. These "Andover" round crest pucks were used as an NHL practice puck in the late-1950s and early-1960s while the Eastern Professional Hockey League used it as its game puck during that era. No chips, nicks or cuts on this vintage beauty which remains in excellent condition, with a complete and fully intact rubberized crest on the face and a blank reverse.
