Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction June 2010
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/22/2010
Classic helmet and cage combo worn by the exciting and legendary Russian-born netminder Vladislav Tretiak. Tretiak was the star of the 1972 Canada-Russia Summit Series and his stellar play between the pipes here in North America during the Seventies and Eighties and over years of international tournament play on the European continent earned him a spot in the Hockey Hall of Fame. This example, worn circa 1982 to 1983 is identical to the style Tretiak wore with the Soviet National Team during the games of the 1983 World championships. The red Cooper SK600 helmet is paired with a Cooper HM30 cage and both pieces show game wear. The helmet displays a good number of scratches and some black and white paint transfer while the cage sports dozens of tiny nicks in the white paint. The screws and hardware show corrosion and more wear is noted inside on the foam padding, chin pad and straps. A white CCCP decal has been applied to the forehead and the back of the helmet retains the original CSA sticker. Vladislav has added a bold black signature across the white leather piece at the chin. The combo was originally obtained directly from Tretiak by a noted European collector and will come with a letter of authenticity.
