Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction June 2010

Fantastic memento commemorates the Toronto Maple Leafs' first place finish in '47-48 and was presented to inspirational Leaf leader Ted Kennedy. "Teeder" potted 25 goals to get his team into the post-season and the following year Kennedy would be named named captain of the Leafs. This simple gold ring by Birks holds a whopping real diamond at the center surrounded by a blue enamel horseshoe holding the words "Maple Leafs World Champions" with "1947-48" below in raised gold lettering. In interior of the bank is marked "BIRKS" and "10K" but our eyes keep darting back to that glittering white diamond! Although the ring appears to have some vintage to it, we do not believe it was made in 1948. From the collection of a Hall-of-Famer who is regarded to this day as one of the greatest face-off men and one of the greatest captains the NHL has ever seen, the formidable keepsake will come with a letter of authenticity from the Kennedy family.
