The 2009 Montreal Centennial Auction
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/24/2009
Scarce style worn by Rick Ley while with the NE Whalers of the World Hockey Association during the 1977-78 season. This Wilson dureen knit is from a set used sparingly during the year as the team also went with mesh jerseys by Stall & Dean, according to the detailed letter of authenticity from Rich Ellis of Spirit of the Game which accompanies the lot. Ricks captains C adorns the upper left breast just across from the harpooned W team crest. Although the Wilson tag is no longer in the neck, you can make out the outline of where it once was and it is certainly the size of a Wilson label, not the larger Rawlings tag. The jersey displays lighter wear with a few marks on the front and more on each arm and a treat is a nice team repair on the back. Garter style fight strap in the tail and everything is sewn on in two-tone tackle twill.
