This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/24/2009
Along with defencemen Larry Robinson and Serge Savard, Guy Lapointe was a member of the Big Three and played a key role in the Canadiens winning the Stanley Cup six times 1971, 1973, 1976, 1977, 1978, 1979. In 1979, having captured their fourth Stanley Cup in as many years, the Montreal Canadiens of the late-Seventies ensured that they would forever be regarded as a hockey dynasty. The players and management members of the 1978-79 Championship team were forced to make room in their trophy cases for yet another of the silver-plated miniatures of Lord Stanleys cup. Thirty-nine inscribed names for two columns down the front of this towering trophy. Original green felt covers the bottom of the black wooden base. The trophy is in near mint condition and comes from the personal collection of Hall of Fame defenceman Guy Lapointe, complete with his letter of provenance and authenticity.
