The 2009 Montreal Centennial Auction
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/24/2009
A key member of the 1932 Stanley Cup champion Toronto Maple Leafs, Red Horner was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1965. He has personalized his autograph on this remarkable portrait of himself by Carleton “Mac” McDiarmid, signing, “To Mac, best regards, ‘Red’ Horner.” Beloved by his teammates, Horner – who died in 2005 – was the first Leafs player to come to Ace Bailey’s defence, knocking out Boston’s Eddie Shore with one punch after he caused the star forward’s career-ending injury in 1933. The artist has signed “Mac” on this colorful original painting on 15 ½” x 13” professional illustration board. Presented in a grey matte, it is mounted in a 20” x 16” silver colored metal frame.
