This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/24/2009
Well known for his eight Stanley Cups as coach of the Montreal Canadiens, Toe Blake was a Hall of Fame player in his own right. Blake debuted in 1935 with the Montreal Maroons, who won their second and final Stanley Cup. The Canadiens snapped up Blake, who won the Hart Trophy in 1939 and subsequently teamed up with Maurice Richard and Elmer Lach to form the legendary Punch Line that provided the Habs with Stanley Cups in 1944 and 1946. “The Old Lamplighter” has signed and personalized this portrait by Carleton “Mac” McDiarmid, “To Mac, With Best Regards, Hector “Toe” Blake C.H.C. 1936-1948.” The artist has signed “Mac” on this outstanding portrait painted on 15 ½” x 13” professional illustration board that has been mounted in grey matte and presented in a 20” x 16” silver-colored metal frame. Elected to the Hall of Fame as a player in 1966, Blake died on May 17, 1995.
