The Jacques Laperriere Auction - Fall 2008
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 10/21/2008
On February 27th, 2007, at Rexall Place in Edmonton, fans gathered along with the Edmonton Oilers to honor the great Mark Messier and raise his jersey number to the rafters in a stirring ceremony before the Oilers vs. Phoenix match. This special puck, with the date and Messier retirement banner logo, was used and saw action in period one of the Oilers 3-0 loss to the Coyotes. Also included in the collection is a similar puck, this one used during the game following the official ceremony in New York, honoring Rangers star Brian Leetch by retiring his uniform number. This example sports the date of January 24, 2008 and has a mini Leetch jersey banner graphic, as did all game pucks used in the match that night, a 2-1 shootout victory for the Rangers over the visiting Atlanta Thrashers. This one saw game action in the first period as well. Both pucks have the NHL’s inventory hologram and both come with an extensive package of authenticating documents from the NHL and the MeiGray Group.
