The Jacques Laperriere Auction - Fall 2008

Sidney Crosby broke into the NHL and hit the ground running, scoring over 100 points in his first year. He upped the total to 120 in his sophomore season and was on track to break the century-mark by at least 14 points when injury sidelined him for a number of games in 2007-08. Like Sidney Crosby, this black Pittsburgh Penguins home jersey donned by the young phenom during the 2005-06 season is the real deal! Already regarded by most as hockey’s premier player, Sidney’s on-ice exploits thus far in his NHL career call out to be compared to those of hockey’s all-time greatest players. Sid is the complete package, for which the sport of hockey, and the NHL in particular, can thank their lucky stars. Sidney wore this alternate captain’s jersey in his rookie year, and it has the team’s special Cutting Edge Sports tag inside the rear hem that reads, in part, has crested and manufactured the numbering and lettering for Sidney Crosby #87”. The tag appears to be sewn over top of another set tag and it has the facsimile signature of former Pens head equipment manager Steve Latin. Evidence of game use is light, but obvious, and includes about five blatant black stick marks on the left sleeve with another pair of stick marks on the back. Tagged in the collar by CCM and Reebok in size 54 with the added “87A” in black marker. Sewing irregularities that show up in two separate areas of the lower front seam have been matched to identical characteristics of the shirt Sid is wearing in an action photo from his first year, providing a conclusive photo match to the jersey. What a piece to own as Crosby’s exhilarating career unfolds! Will come with a letter of authenticity and an 8”x10” photo of Crosby in action showing the match details.
