The Jacques Laperriere Auction - Fall 2008
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 10/21/2008
This historic sweater was worn throughout the first months of the 2007-08 NHL season and then for most of Martin Brodeur’s historic 500th NHL win milestone match. Martin became the second netminder in the history of the game to reach the plateau, placing him in a very exclusive group along with the great Patrick Roy. According to the accompanying letter of authenticity, “Brodeur wore this RBK Edge 1.0 jersey during the first and second periods of his 500th National Hockey League win, when he defeated the Philadelphia Flyers, 6-2, on November 17, 2007 at Wachovia Center”. Anticipating a win, Brodeur wore two jerseys during the game: this one for the first 40 minutes and another shirt prepared for the final period which he kept for his own collection. Brodeur closed out this last season with a total of 538 career wins and appears poised to topple the all time win record of 551, currently held by Patrick Roy. Great game use is evident on the jersey, with numerous stick and puck marks across the front crest and lower belly and dozens of additional scuffs and marks on the arms. Red goal post and crossbar paint transfer can be found on both sleeves, the back tail and in between the back numbers. Many of the marks on the shirt have been matched to multiple action photos from the historic game and digital copies of these pics will be provided to the winning bidder. Sewn into the rear hem is the MeiGray inventory tag and the fight strap has the marked notations “1 & 2”, referring to the two periods in which the shirt was worn. A comprehensive package of authenticating documentation includes the original invoice from MeiGray, a team letter of authenticity from the New Jersey Devils to the original purchaser, signed by Lou Lamorello and an additional LOA from Barry Meisel of the Meigray Group documenting the details of the milestone and confirming that this is the shirt worn by Martin Brodeur during the historic game.
