The Jacques Laperriere Auction - Fall 2008
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 10/21/2008
The Toronto Maple Leafs were the toast of the NHL in 1947-48. Toronto finished first overall to claim the Prince of Wales Trophy and Turk Broda claimed the Vezina as the league’s top goalie. Legendary Leafs captain Syl Apps called it a career after he scored one of the Maple Leafs’ seven goals in the final game of a four-game sweep of the Detroit Red Wings. All three awards are prominently displayed on Maple Leaf Gardens ice in the gorgeous team photo that is accompanied by a gold-colored plaque with results of every game from Toronto’s four-game sweep of Detroit in the finals. The display includes original autographs from Gus Mortson, Ted Kennedy, Wally Staniowski, Vic Lynn, Howie Meeker, Joe Klukay, Harry Watson and Sid Smith. The team photo features the Cup in front of Apps along with the Prince of Wales and Vezina Trophies. Mounted in a 33” x 23” wood frame, the display is presented in a “skate marks on ice” silver matte around the exterior with a grey matte with white and blue accents surrounding the photos and autographs.
