The Jacques Laperriere Auction - Fall 2008
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 10/21/2008
Another history lesson here with this colorful, commemorative program for the R.N.V.R. Club signed on the cover “Edward P” by the man who donated the Prince of Wales Trophy to the NHL in 1924. Prince Edward became Prince of Wales in June of 1910 when his father King George V was crowned King of the United Kingdom and he remained Prince of Wales until 1936 when he became King Edward VIII. Scarce signature here since most documents from this period are offered with the similar but stamped signature of Edward. A controversial Sovereign, Edward voluntarily abdicated the thrown after less than a year so as to be able to marry an American divorcee, Ms. Wallis Simpson. Also included in the lot is a vintage photographic trade card for Yardley’s Soap with an image of the young Prince in his military attire.
