Glenn Anderson will always be remembered for taking his game to another level when it counted the most, as Wayne Gretzky put it “he was a big game, big goal type” of player who thrived in the play-offs. Based on the heavy wear that this beautiful Nike gamer displays it is likely that this shirt was worn by Anderson throughout the entire 1988 playoffs in which he picked up 9 goals and 16 assists. Most importantly it has been video matched to Anderson wearing it during the 1988 Stanley Cup Finals versus Boston! Andy wore this jersey in historic game four of the series...”the night the lights went out in the garden”, scoring the first goal of the game just 10 seconds after the puck is dropped! Late in the second period after the fog set in and Craig Simpson ties up the match at three the lights in the Garden go out for good and the game is cancelled. The teams then return to Edmonton and the Oilers go on and sweep the series winning their fourth Stanley Cup Championship and last with Gretzky. This well worn and washed jersey shows tremendous wear inside and out with countless stick marks and board burns, extremely heavy interior pilling and no less than nine team repairs! It has the blue Nike XL size tag, is marked 87/88 in the collar and comes with full MeiGray documentation and a copy of the video match in VHS format. It should be noted that the new crisp looking assistant captains “A” was added to the jersey by the team when the jersey was worn again by Anderson for a few games in the 1988-89 pre-season, commonplace for jerseys of the era. Will come with a letter of authenticity.
