The Jacques Laperriere Auction - Fall 2008
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 10/21/2008
The Edmonton Oilers defeated the Boston Bruins in the 1990 Stanley Cup Finals, four games to one. For the Oilers, it was their fifth Cup win in seven years, and their only victory without Wayne Gretzky. Offered here is a stunning creation in gleaming gold and dazzling diamonds! The table of this ring features four hefty solitaire cubic zircons swimming in a sea of smaller gems surrounded by the “McAvoy” with an enameled Oilers logo and “1990”. The other shank has “5 Stanley Cup Championships” with a raised image of the cup and “84, 85, 87, 88, 90”. The interior of the band is stamped with the manufacturer’s 10K karat markings. Elsie McAvoy, mother-in-law to Edmonton Oilers owner Peter Pocklington, was presented with this ring to celebrate the team’s Stanley Cup season. An accompanying letter of authenticity, from the Jostens representative in Edmonton who was charged with producing the Oilers rings for all five championships and who has closely examined this ring, details the authenticity of the ring and notes that this example was produced for Mrs. McAvoy and is listed on the original order form and documentation for the Oilers 1990 Stanley Cup rings. In pristine condition, complete with an additional letter of provenance signed by Peter Pocklington.
