The Jacques Laperriere Auction - Fall 2008
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 10/21/2008
This wonderful gold and diamond ring was issued to a member of the Stanley Cup champion 1950-51 Toronto Maple Leafs organization, though it is unknown whether it belonged to a player, staff member or team executive. The Maple Leafs won their sixth Cup in a 10-year span in the spring of 1951, beating the Montreal Canadiens in five games in a final that saw each game decided in overtime. Bill Barilko gave Toronto its fourth Cup in five years when he beat Gerry McNeil in Game 5 at Maple Leaf Gardens. A beautiful diamond is set in the middle of a maple leaf on the face of the ring which features a blue enamel horseshoe shape with “Maple Leafs World Champions” in raised gold letters with 1950-51 below. The inside of the band is stamped “Birks 10K”. This fantastic gold and diamond championship ring is an amazing collectors’ item honoring one of the Maple Leafs’ greatest Stanley Cup wins. [red]Addendum; This is an original 1951 Stanley Cup Championship ring, it was originally found underneath a bed in a hotel room back in the 1950’s. Research to find out whom it belonged to have been inconclusive and therefore, we do not know whom it was originally produced for.[/red]
