The Jacques Laperriere Auction - Fall 2008
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 10/21/2008
This original official Boston Garden program and hockey magazine is from the game in which Bobby Orr scored his first NHL goal. Orr beat Montreal’s Gump Worsley for the first of his 270 regular season goals on Sunday, October 23, 1966. With a face value of 50 cents (48 cents plus two cents sales tax), this copy of the Volume XXXIX, No. 2 edition of Sport News Boston Bruins Hockey has an action shot on the cover of Bruins forward Murray Oliver shooting on Detroit goalie Roger Crozier, with Johnny Bucyk looming unguarded in the slot. The program has its original
eight-page pink colored game insert stapled into the centerfold. A feature story on Orr notes below the headline, “He won’t shine every night but just give the kid time”. All that kept Orr from shining every night during his all-too-brief NHL career were the numerous injuries that plagued the legendary defenceman’s knees.
