The Jacques Laperriere Auction - Fall 2008
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 10/21/2008
The New York Islanders won their third straight Prince of Wales Trophy in 1983-84, setting up an opportunity to tie the Montreal Canadiens record of five straight Stanley Cups. The Islanders got past an upstart Canadiens squad in the conference final, roaring back with four straight wins after losing the first two games of the series to Montreal. The Edmonton Oilers brought the Islanders’ dynasty to an end with a
five-game win in the Stanley Cup final, payback for the previous season’s loss. This is the original personal Prince of Wales Trophy that was presented to Islanders forward Bob Bourne by the NHL. One side of the 2” high wooden base has a plaque engraved “N.H.L. CHAMPIONS NEW YORK ISLANDERS 1983 – 84” and a plaque on the other side has “H.R.H. PRINCE of WALES TROPHY BOB BOURNE” engraved on it. The base has green felt underneath it and the wood exhibits some wear. This fantastic trophy that winds up the Islanders’ dynasty of the early-1980s comes along with Bob Bourne’s signed letter of authenticity.
