The Jacques Laperriere Auction - Fall 2008
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 10/21/2008
Team Canada won just one bronze medal in its first four world championship tournaments after returning to the international stage in the late-1970s following a lengthy boycott. Canada’s national team fared much better in the next decade as the team became a regular visitor to the podium in the 1980s. The 1989 team capped a solid decade with a silver medal in Sweden, its fifth medal in a span of six tournaments. Steve Yzerman had a goal and two assists in Team Canada’s 4-3 win over Czechoslovakia which secured second place overall. This is the original International Ice Hockey Federation silver medal that was presented to Dr. Lewis as Canada beat out third-place Czechoslovakia to finish behind only the Soviet Union for its second silver medal in five years. This outstanding championship medal still has its original yellow and blue ribbon and comes along with Dr. Ernie Lewis’ signed letter of authenticity.
