The Jacques Laperriere Auction - Fall 2008
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 10/21/2008
Other than the great Doug Harvey, nobody wore the No. 2 for the Montreal Canadiens with more distinction than Jacques Laperriere, who inherited his idol’s number when he joined the Habs in the early-1960s. The Canadiens retired No. 2 in Harvey’s honor on October 26, 1985 and assistant coach Laperriere took part in the pregame ceremony, as evidenced by the 10” x 8” laminated photo of him holding up Harvey’s No. 2 jersey during the Forum ceremony as Harvey looks on. A pin from the evening is included in this lot which features a team-signed white Canadiens replica jersey with heat pressed crest and solid blue number 2 on back and sleeves, “Lappy” in heat pressed letters across the back with “#1” written beside it. Gainey, Robinson, Roy, Tremblay, Smith, Chelios, Carbonneau, Richer, Ludwig, Nilan, Rooney, McPhee, Boisvert, Dahlin, Lalor, Green, Kurvers, Skrudland, Momesso, Walter and Perron all signed the jersey as they went on to win the team’s 23rd Stanley Cup. A personalized engraved pen from that title is in its original case and a Bobby Smith Sherwood hockey stick is autographed by Dahlin, Richer, Kordic, Svoboda, Walter, Green, McPhee, Carbonneau, Robinson, Lalor, Roy, Nilan, Skrudland, Gainey, Chelios, Smith and Hayward. Maurice Richard, John Ferguson, Gump Worsley and Vladimir Tretiak are among the signatures in a copy of the Montreal Forum: Forever Proud book that is also autographed by Butch Bouchard, Lach, Beliveau, Henri Richard, Goyette, Talbot, Gilles Tremblay and Frank Mahovlich. A fine way to compete this great lot, which comes with Laperriere’s signed LOA.
