Hockey Memorabilia Auction - Spring 2008
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/10/2008
Hall of Fame center Ralph “Cooney” Weiland appears on the far left of the front row of this vintage studio-posed team photo of the 1924 Owen Sound Greys. Weiland came within one goal of Joe Malone’s NHL record when he scored 43 goals with the Boston Bruins in 1928-29, his second season in the league. The 1924 Greys won the O.H.A. Cup and the Memorial Cup as junior champions. The original 9 ¼” x 7 ½” studio photograph is mounted on a cardboard backing that measures approximately 14” x 11” and is titled “Owen Sound Greys – Dominion Champions, 1924”. The teams players are listed at the bottom with the Tucker studio of Owen Sound identified as the photographer. The cardboard backing exhibits minor fraying at the edges and the print remains in very good condition.
