A total of 60 black and white prints and 460 original black and white negatives of Nadia Comaneci’s unforgettable performance at the 1976 Olympics are among the valuable highlights in Denis Brodeur’s unbelievable collection of images from the 21st Olympiad in Montreal. There is also one color slide of the Romanian gymnast who captured hearts all over the world with her amazing athletic feats that summer at the Montreal Forum. This huge collection spans Montreal mayor Jean Drapeau’s successful bid to obtain the games and includes 460 shots of the opening ceremonies and another 235 from the closing of the games. Brodeur took over 600 photos of the track and field competition in addition to his shots of volleyball, wrestling, fencing, water polo and weightlifting. Brodeur’s original Montreal 1976 press pin is included in this magnificent lot, along with a souvenir Olympic coin and his personalized “Games of the XXI Olympiad Montreal 1976” diploma. Dated August 30, 1976, it measures 11 ½” x 16 ½” and features the original signature of International Olympic Committee president Lord Killanin. In addition to the more than 3,000 Olympic images, a wonderful bonus in this lot is a collection of hundreds of color slides from Expo '67, Montreal’s fantastic world’s fair. The copyright of these images will be transferred to their new owner. What amazing memories of Montreal’s turn on the world stage!
