Intriguing letter penned in green ink by one of baseball's immortals is dated "Oct-8-60" and is on "Tyrus R. Cobb" letterhead. Sent to a Mr. Ludlow, it reveals that Cobb received a stamped photo envelope from the Sporting News with Ludlow's address on it, but that "I fail to find an enclosed picture to be signed and returned." Cobb goes on to mention that he receives a lot of mail, that he had been in the hospital and possibly his daughter or son-in-law opened the envelope and misplaced a picture. Cobb invites the gentleman to write him in Lake Tahoe, Nevada (where he'll be for several weeks) and that he'd "be pleased to carry out your wishes if had the photo." Signed "Sincerely Ty Cobb", the one-page letter has non-detracting fold lines and is a tempting one-of-a-kind. One of the first five Baseball Hall of Fame inductees, Cobb died in July of 1961, less than a year after writing this letter.
