Well folks, no use saving the best for last, let’s get right to it with this absolutely shocking, to-die-for uniform worn by the most beloved Montreal Expo of all-time, Rusty Staub. The franchise’s first bona-fide star and adored by fans and media alike, “Le Grand Orange”, in three memorable years in Montreal, left a legacy of being everything a new major league baseball team could hope for, both on and off the field. A true gentleman, Rusty was 27 years old in 1971 when he buttoned up this white flannel Expos jersey and stepped into the matching pants. In his final campaign with Montreal, Staub played in all 162 games, batting .311 with 186 hits, including 34 doubles and 19 home runs. He scored 94 runs and drove in 97, was selected for the mid-summer All-Star game and at season’s end received some MVP votes. With a size 44 Rawlings tag in the collar and a “Set 1 #8P 1971” tag sewn on the front tail beside a washing instructions tag, the museum-worthy jersey features the Expos crest, team name and number “10”s on the front and back sewn-on in beautiful tackle twill. It is beneath the number on the front where Rusty applied a big, bold, difficult-to-ask-for-nicer black marker autograph. Originally part of Rusty’s personal collection, the shirt has been preserved in exceptional condition with absolutely no unsightly or notable flaws. Joining it are the equally delectable pants, autographed in black sharpie on the inner waist. A size 34 Rawlings tag, a washing instructions tag and another “Set 1 #8P 1971” tag are also in the waist, along with another tag; a felt affair with “10 71 34 24” chain-stitched in blue thread. Also in phenomenal condition with smashing red, white and blue piping. A cornerstone of an Expos game worn collection is what the lucky high bidder will be acquiring with this mesmerizing uniform. Included with this fabulous jersey are the following documents; Letter of provenance from Daniel Staub, letter of authenticity from JSA (James Spence Authentication) and MEARS letter of opinion.
